Play is a child’s language—here, we listen.

Our play-based approach helps children express themselves, process experiences, and learn skills for emotional regulation, problem-solving, and healthy communication.

Children communicate their feelings through play, making it a powerful tool for understanding their experiences and helping them develop healthy coping skills. Our team works with children ages 3 to 13 years old, offering a supportive, nurturing environment where they can safely explore emotions, build confidence, and strengthen key developmental skills.

Common questions about play therapy

  • Play therapy is a approach that helps children express their emotions, work through challenges, and learn healthy coping skills by using play as the primary form of communication.

Because children often communicate through play rather than words, play-based sessions allow them to explore feelings safely and naturally. Play therapy can include many different specific activities and intervention, all of which leverage the power of play!

    • Anxiety, fear, worry

    • Depression

    • Low self-esteem

    • Trauma

    • Separation anxiety

    • Grief/Loss

    • Life transitions- Moving, starting school, birth of a sibling

  • The goal of play therapy is to allow children to explore and navigate emotions, become more confident in decision making, improve problem solving skills, enhance social interactions, learn to express and regulate emotions, build self-esteem, navigate difficult situations, transitions, negative experiences and trauma.

  • Sessions are held in a playroom equipped with toys and materials chosen for emotional expression and skill-building. Children may engage in imaginative play, games, art activities, storytelling, or sensory play. Each session is tailored to your child's developmental stage and needs.

  • Parent involvement is an important part of the process. While most sessions are child-led, our clinicians schedule regular parent check-ins to discuss progress, share insights, and offer guidance on how to support your child at home. We ask that parents do not leave the building while their child is in session.

  • Play therapy is found to be most effective between the ages of 3 and 13 years old. Sessions for older children often blend play with conversation, creative activities, and coping skills training appropriate to their developmental level. For children with neurodivergence or unique developmental abilities it can be effective for older children as well.
